Peace Prophet paints watercolors on Chicago sidewalks while her work is collected in homes across the city and beyond. The 70-year-old artist has no home of her own.
She paints daily downtown, moving between spots near the State Street Macy’s and an art-supply store. On a mid-July morning, she painted a woman’s face beneath a wide-brimmed hat decorated with colorful petals. A breeze lifted the paper as she worked.
Her paintings have also been shown in galleries and sold at art fairs. Francis Fullam, who began collecting her work in 2012, estimates he has bought close to 1,000 pieces.
