Former President Barack Obama has endorsed Keisha Lance Bottoms, the Democratic nominee for Georgia governor, in a video released Thursday.
Obama pointed to Bottoms’ experience as Atlanta mayor, city councilmember and judge. He also addressed her proposals to lower costs, expand Medicaid, support rural hospitals and ease grocery taxes.
Bottoms faces Republican nominee Rick Jackson. Former President Joe Biden endorsed her in May, while President Donald Trump and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp have backed Jackson. Bottoms previously served in Biden’s administration as a senior adviser and director of the White House Office of Public Engagement.
Polls show a close race, with undecided voters potentially decisive. Early voting runs from Oct. 13 through Oct. 30, ahead of Election Day on Nov. 3.
