Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff and Republican Rep. Mike Collins traded personal attacks in Georgia’s first U.S. Senate debate on Thursday night, while also discussing the economy, health care and data centers.
During the hour-long debate, Ossoff criticized Collins over President Donald Trump’s tariffs, the war in Iran and racist and antisemitic statements attributed to Collins’s associates. Collins attacked Ossoff’s background and accused him of failing to prevent a government shutdown last year and supporting weak border policies. Those claims were part of the candidates’ arguments, not findings established by the debate.
Ossoff is seeking his first re-election since taking office in 2021. Collins has represented Georgia’s 10th Congressional District since 2023. The two face each other in November.
