President Donald Trump claimed Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an energy ceasefire, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he knew of no deal. Moscow had not immediately confirmed Trump's announcement.
Trump posted that the ceasefire was effective immediately and said both sides had agreed. He gave no details about what it would cover. Zelenskyy said Ukraine was ready to accept an energy ceasefire if Russia agreed to one.
Trump made a similar announcement a month earlier, but both countries continued aerial attacks on each other's energy facilities. The latest claim follows a U.S. agreement to lift sanctions on Russian fuel under a deal Trump said would release diesel to global markets. Trump has also urged Kyiv to stop striking Russian oil refineries.
