Trump says Ukraine should stop striking Russian diesel refineries
Donald Trump said Sunday that he had urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop attacks on Russian diesel refineries, arguing that the strikes are worsening a global diesel shortage.
Speaking in Doonbeg, Ireland, Trump said Ukraine should focus on other targets instead. Earlier the same day, Ukraine’s military said it struck the TANECO refinery in Russia’s Tatarstan republic. Police there said two civilians were killed.
Ukraine has long said Russian energy infrastructure is a legitimate military target because oil and gas revenue helps finance Moscow’s war. The strikes have hit Russia’s oil sector for months, while Russia has answered with attacks on petrol stations, mainly near the front line.
