Chicago has presented the final Cabrini Now framework plan for 43 acres of former Cabrini Green land on the Near North Side.

The plan covers 16 sites and calls for roughly 4,100 homes, about 9.1 acres of new green space, commercial space, roads and other infrastructure. The housing would include affordable and market-rate units, as well as some public housing.

The city first presented the framework to the community in 2024 and revised it after public input meetings. It is meant to guide redevelopment, address outstanding affordable housing obligations from Cabrini Green’s demolition and provide a basis for the city to seek proposals from private developers.

At the remaining rowhomes, the plan would retain and renovate some buildings. It also proposes changes to Locust Street, a new street north of Chicago Avenue and an extension linking Durso Park with Seward Park. That cluster is projected to accommodate about 1,100 new homes.
