Dallas ISD and DART have launched a bus maintenance externship that will place 14 high school seniors with transit technicians this semester.
The program is part of the district’s Automotive Technician Program of Study and gives students hands-on training in bus maintenance and related technical careers. Dallas ISD and DART said students will work alongside DART bus maintenance technicians to gain real-world experience.
Training will focus on vehicle inspections, engine fundamentals and climate system maintenance. The district and the transit agency said the partnership is designed to build job skills for students and help address a shortage of diesel maintenance mechanics.
