Broward County health and mosquito control officials issued an alert Monday after confirming a locally acquired case of dengue fever.
Florida has reported more than 250 locally acquired dengue cases this year in at least seven counties, according to the state Department of Health’s latest arbovirus surveillance report.
Dengue is a viral illness spread mainly through bites from infected Aedes mosquitoes, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says. These mosquitoes also spread Zika and chikungunya. Symptoms usually start within two weeks and can last nearly three weeks, including aches, nausea and rashes.
