Nine restaurants in Miami-Dade and Broward counties were closed following state inspections that found problems including pests, food safety issues and poor cleanliness.
At one location, an inspector found about 10 ants on and inside a honey container and ordered the honey taken off sale. The inspector also estimated 61 flies, including near food preparation areas, the front counter, clean dishes and dry storage.
At another restaurant, inspectors spotted live and dead roaches near kitchen work areas. A worker moved from handling raw pork and beef to vegetables without changing gloves or washing hands. Another prepared food after picking up trash from the floor without washing hands.
The Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation conducts the inspections. Restaurants that fail must stay closed until they pass a follow-up inspection, which usually happens the next day.
