Amtrak’s second daily round trip between Pittsburgh and New York City is set to begin Nov. 18, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.
The new service will use the 444-mile Pennsylvanian route, which stops in Harrisburg and Philadelphia. Tickets will become available later this week through Amtrak’s website and app.
The existing Pittsburgh-to-New York train takes more than nine hours, departing Pittsburgh at 7:20 a.m. and arriving at 4:50 p.m. In the other direction, it leaves Penn Station at 10:52 a.m. and reaches Pittsburgh at 8:05 p.m.
Amtrak announced the expansion in August. Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration has invested more than $80 million in Pennsylvania rail expansion, including planned work in Pittsburgh to improve how trains move through the area.
