Texas board approves revised high school social studies standards
The Texas State Board of Education gave final approval on Sept. 4 to revised standards for U.S. History, U.S. Government, World History and World Geography.
The decision completed the board’s update of K-12 social studies standards in Texas. The revisions came after an extended public fight over how classrooms should address American history, capitalism, Western civilization, Christianity and Islam.
Supporters included members of Moms for Liberty. Before the final vote, Harris County chapter chair Denise Bell urged board members to pass the proposal and backed amendments offered by board member Brandon Hall.
