Demolition began Tuesday at Houston’s former Greenspoint Mall, where a $150 million industrial redevelopment is planned. A morning ceremony marked the start of work, and the first structure was brought down.
Lincoln and New York Life Investment Management announced the CityNorth Industrial Park project near the northeast corner of Interstate 45 and Beltway 8. The plan covers about 80 acres and calls for 1.2 million square feet of cross-dock and rear-load industrial buildings, plus retail and service space.
Current estimates put the project at roughly 300 construction jobs and capacity for about 1,200 full-time jobs once fully developed. Fitness Connection is expected to remain on the site in a planned 45,500-square-foot facility.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire said the redevelopment, together with planned police and fire stations, would bring more investment and jobs to the Greenspoint and Aldine ISD communities.
