Seattle Mayor Katie B. Wilson has formed the Resilient Seattle Economy Task Force to develop ways to strengthen and diversify the city’s economy. She has asked the group for initial findings by February 2027.
The task force brings together labor, business and industry leaders. It will examine how the city can remove obstacles for businesses and support growth in sectors including hospitality, manufacturing, clean technology, maritime, nightlife and the creative industries. Its recommendations are expected to build on the Seawall: Building a Resilient Seattle Economy report.
The effort comes amid slower job growth and difficulties downtown. The Downtown Seattle Association reports that Seattle has lost about 18,000 jobs since 2024, many at downtown businesses, while Bellevue and Tacoma gained jobs. Wilson has said she wants employers to be able to grow without workers being priced out of living in the city.
