The U.S. Forest Service has contained one wildfire near Wakefield, Michigan, and is still fighting a second south of town.
Forest Service spokesperson Shanelle Saunders said Monday morning that the smaller fire, north of Wakefield near Camp 4 Grade Road, was fully contained at 18 acres. Firefighters reported the Black River Fire, south of Wakefield, was about 40% contained as of Sunday night.
The Forest Service estimated the Black River Fire at roughly 100 acres in a Sunday update, though it said more precise ground mapping could change that figure. Saunders said the fire is in a remote area, poses no danger to homes or businesses, and has not required evacuations.
Aircraft are being used in the response. The Forest Service asked the public not to fly drones or other aircraft in the area.
