Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms and Republican Rick Jackson are set to meet in their only joint debate of this election cycle on Oct. 6, ahead of Georgia’s Nov. 3 midterm election.
The live town hall will give the candidates a chance to face each other before a statewide audience as early voting approaches. It will air on television stations across Georgia operated by Gray Media.
University of Georgia political science professor Charles Bullock said questions from voters can catch candidates off guard. He also cautioned that the town hall format may leave weak answers unchallenged because audience members are less likely to ask follow-up questions.
