House passes another measure to limit Iran war powers
The U.S. House voted 220 to 204 late Tuesday to restrict further military action against Iran without congressional approval, marking the chamber’s third passage of a war powers resolution on the conflict.
All Democrats backed the measure, joined by seven Republicans, including three who voted for it for the first time. The vote would direct President Donald Trump to halt military action unless Congress authorizes it, but earlier versions have not reached his desk and he would be expected to veto the measure.
The House first approved a similar resolution in June and passed another in July. The latest vote came as lawmakers prepare to leave Washington to campaign ahead of the midterm elections, with the nearly seven-month conflict weighing on both parties and becoming a larger issue in congressional races.
