Manny Yekutiel withdrew from the San Francisco District 8 supervisor race hours after a second public allegation of sexual assault against him was reported. He said he did not recall the alleged incident.
Mayor Daniel Lurie had endorsed Yekutiel after the first allegation was reported in June, saying he believed Yekutiel’s denial. Board of Supervisors President Rafael Mandelman continued to support him until shortly before the withdrawal. The San Francisco Democratic Party investigated a complaint from the first accuser only after it was reported, then said it lacked jurisdiction and endorsed Yekutiel.
Separate reporting on the city’s response to survivors found that San Francisco police cleared rape cases at half the national average. Voters approved free lawyers for domestic violence survivors in 2022, but the city never allocated money for the program.
