Two Bay Area nonprofits have opened applications for an affordable homeownership opportunity for low-income artists in San Francisco’s Mission district. Vital Arts and the Northern California Land Trust are offering the first unit at Celadon House, an Adair Street duplex removed from the for-profit housing market.
Applications are open through Nov. 22. Buyers must be purchasing their first home and have household income no higher than 80% of the San Francisco area median; that threshold was $65,450 for one person last year. Prospective buyers can apply for mortgages through Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco.
The unit is being offered for less than one-third of its appraised value, the land trust said. Celadon House was secured through a donation from an anonymous local artist and is the first property in the Artist Space Trust’s Artist Housing Commons. The trust aims to develop more affordable places for artists to live and work across the Bay Area.
