Beyoncé appeared with her daughters Blue Ivy and Rumi at the opening of the Knowles-Rowland House in Houston. Their outing together was a rare public appearance.
Beyoncé and her former Destiny’s Child bandmate Kelly Rowland established the site in 1999 as a gymnasium and youth center. Sales of the group’s first single helped support it. Following damage from a hurricane and a fire, nonprofit Bread of Life helped renovate the building.
The renovated site is intended to offer permanent housing for people experiencing chronic homelessness. It will also offer help with managing cases, mental health, substance use, everyday skills and nutrition.
