Broward County has reported its first locally acquired dengue case of 2026, the Florida Department of Health in Broward said Monday. Officials did not release details about the patient.
The county had also recorded 20 travel-related cases this year in data covering Sept. 20-26. The health department said it is working with Broward County Mosquito Control on monitoring and prevention.
Across Florida, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recorded 485 dengue cases so far this year, nearly half acquired locally in eight counties. Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, accounts for 223 local cases. Florida has recorded one dengue death this year, involving an elderly Tampa woman on Sept. 4.
In Miami-Dade, state health officials reported eight locally acquired cases and 150 travel-related cases. Dr. Lilian Abbo, an infectious disease specialist with Jackson Health System, urged residents to continue taking preventive measures.
