Cy-Fair library jobs remain uncertain
Cypress-Fairbanks ISD restored previously removed textbook chapters after last year’s school board election, but the district has said little publicly about whether 50 librarian positions cut in 2024 will return.
Those jobs were eliminated in May 2024 as the district worked to close a $138 million budget deficit. The remaining 42 librarians now rotate among campuses, leaving some school libraries unavailable when no librarian is on site.
At Moore Elementary, a parent said the library is often dark and locked because there is no staff member there to run it. The district’s earlier textbook changes, including removed chapters on climate change, vaccines and cultural diversity, were reversed soon after the board changed hands. Rehiring librarians, however, would require money in a future budget, and no such move has been detailed.
