Updated plans for Seattle’s RapidRide R appear to retain significant stop consolidation along the route from Downtown Seattle to Rainier Beach, despite community concerns about access.

The eight-mile line is planned to replace Route 7 on Rainier Avenue S by 2032. The revision adds stops at S Grand Street and retains a stop pair at S Walker Street. Metro’s engagement summary also identifies a proposed pair at S Bayview Street, citing ridership, new housing, community destinations and public feedback.

The revised stops between the Judkins Park and Mount Baker light rail stations could improve access there, while riders elsewhere could face longer walks. If the King County Council approves the plan next month, several current Route 7 stops would remain off the RapidRide R list, including stops at 12th Avenue S and Boren Avenue S, S Charles Street and S Andover Street. Metro says precise station locations will be settled as design and public engagement continue.
