Cavan Sullivan became the youngest scorer in U.S. men's national team history during a 3-0 friendly win over Mexico on Saturday night. The Philadelphia Union forward was 17 years and five days old.
Sullivan scored in the 62nd minute after intercepting a pass from Mexico goalkeeper José Rangel and lifting a long-range shot over him. His goal doubled the U.S. lead in the rivals' 80th meeting.
Julian Hall, 18, had put the Americans ahead in the 28th minute, scoring from close range after Gio Reyna's cross deflected off Rangel. It was Hall's third goal in three international games. Mexico's Mateo Chávez was sent off in the 67th minute, leaving his team with 10 players, and Malik Tillman scored the final goal in the 84th.
