NBA reporter Jovan Buha said hypothetical trades for Dallas Mavericks players P.J. Washington or Daniel Gafford could appeal to the Los Angeles Lakers, but cautioned against giving up too much.
In a livestream Q&A, Buha considered a proposed package involving Jarred Vanderbilt, Dalton Knecht and draft compensation. He was more willing to part with second-round picks than a future first-round pick swap. The Lakers could explore a roster move before the 2026-27 season and need to trim their roster to 15 players.
Buha said Washington could fit alongside the Lakers’ starters, though he warned against overpaying. His concern with Gafford centered on salary: spending heavily at center could leave less room to add a wing. The deals were discussed as possibilities, not reported as agreed trades.
