D’Andre Swift was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three touchdowns in the Bears’ season-opening win over Carolina.
Swift rushed for 124 yards in Chicago’s 59-37 victory in Charlotte, his first game since signing a three-year contract extension with the team. The NFL said he is the first Bears running back to earn the weekly honor since Jordan Howard did so in Week 8 of the 2016 season.
The Bears scored six rushing touchdowns against the Panthers. According to Pro Football Reference’s Stathead tool, that was Chicago’s highest single-game rushing touchdown total since 1941, and the NFL said no team had reached six rushing touchdowns in a game since at least 1950.
Chicago’s 59 points were the franchise’s second-highest total in a regular-season game and its most in any game since 1980. The Bears next host the Minnesota Vikings at Soldier Field on Sunday, with kickoff set for noon.
