The Chicago White Sox were eliminated from the playoffs Saturday night in Cleveland, losing 2-0 to the Guardians in the deciding Game 5 of the American League Division Series.
José Ramírez hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning after Steven Kwan led off with a single. Cleveland's pitchers struck out 21 batters, including 12 by Gavin Williams, and held Chicago to three hits.
The Guardians won three straight games after falling behind 2-0 in the best-of-five series. Chicago's offense, the American League's most productive during the regular season, struck out 75 times across the series. White Sox manager Will Venable said Cleveland's pitchers attacked the strike zone and his hitters missed pitches there.
Chicago reached the playoffs after three consecutive 100-loss seasons. Cleveland will open the AL Championship Series at Tampa Bay on Monday night.
