The White Sox lost the decisive Game 5 to the Guardians in Cleveland on Saturday, ending their season after surrendering a 2-0 series lead. Chicago struck out a record 21 times in the game.
The defeat turns attention to the roster beyond this season. An assessment of the team suggests most of its young core will return, but some players may not. Sean Newcomb, 33, is set to enter free agency after signing a one-year deal with Chicago.
Newcomb competed for a rotation spot in the spring before moving to the bullpen. He made six regular-season starts as an opener and one in the postseason. He recorded a 3.09 regular-season ERA and a 2.57 postseason ERA, with 97.1 innings reported in total.
