The DeKalb County Board of Education voted Monday to make Dr. Norman C. Sauce III the school district’s permanent superintendent. The reported tally was 4-1-1, with one member abstaining.
Sauce had led the district on an interim basis for 11 months after former superintendent Dr. Devon Horton resigned amid federal criminal charges. The board considered no other candidates for the permanent job, drawing criticism from people who wanted a wider search.
Sauce has spent more than 27 years in public education, including roles as a teacher, principal and district student services chief. Board Chair Allyson Gevertz pointed to his commitment to student achievement and family engagement. Lisa Morgan, a kindergarten teacher and president of the Organization of DeKalb Educators, said the appointment would bring stability for students and staff.
