The Interstate 10 HOV connector to downtown is scheduled to close at 9 p.m. Friday for demolition and rebuilding, the Texas Department of Transportation says.
Drivers heading downtown on eastbound I-10 should continue to the Smith Street exit instead of using the HOV ramp. Those entering westbound I-10 from Franklin Street should go by way of Louisiana Street. TxDOT expects the eastbound ramp to reopen in fall 2027 and the westbound ramp in summer 2028.
Metro plans to reroute buses on the 161 Wilcrest Express and 162 Memorial Express routes, which serve the U.S. 290 and I-10 Katy areas. The agency advises riders to allow 15 to 30 extra minutes for trips in either direction, especially during peak hours. It will post updates at affected stops and monitor travel times.
The closure is part of a $413 million project to elevate I-10’s main lanes between Heights Boulevard and Interstate 45 to reduce flooding.
