New York City reopened Lost Battalion Hall Recreation Center in Rego Park, Queens, on October 9 after a $25.9 million reconstruction.
The project refurbished the weightlifting area, spin room and fitness room with new equipment. Lockers and storage areas were upgraded, the basketball court was repainted, and the entrance and lobby were redesigned.
The building now has accessible restrooms on every floor and wider routes through the facility. Work at the front entrance included new doors and changes to nearby stairways; existing staircases were rebuilt, and another was added on the east side.
Dating to 1939, the hall has served generations of Queens residents. The reopening returns a long-standing indoor recreation space to the neighborhood.
