Lost Battalion Hall Recreation Center has reopened in Rego Park, Queens, after a $25.9 million reconstruction, Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani and Parks Commissioner Tricia Shimamura announced.
The work brought a redesigned entrance and lobby, refurbished fitness areas, updated restrooms and a freshly painted basketball court. The city also added equipment and upgraded accessibility, safety and building systems.
The center has a long basketball history. The New York Knicks used it as an auxiliary practice facility in the 1960s, and Queens native and former NBA player Kenny “The Jet” Smith is among the local players who developed there. The building also houses one of the last surviving Works Progress Administration murals on Parks property.
