A TV attack ad against Jonathan Nez displayed a photo of Myron Lizer twice instead of the Democratic candidate. Nez, a former Navajo Nation president running in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District, called the error a "slap in the face to tribal leaders" on Friday.
Lizer served as Nez’s vice president in the Navajo Nation and is a Republican. The 30-second ad showed his image while naming Nez and criticizing him. It has since been corrected.
No Going Back PAC funded the ad in support of Republican Rep. Eli Crane’s re-election campaign. The committee is linked to President Donald Trump’s political operation and has spent more than $3.3 million on the race.
Nez said he learned of the mix-up Friday morning after constituents spotted Lizer on their TV screens. The district includes the Navajo Nation, Flagstaff and Sedona.
