The Trump administration is suspending Microsoft, Adobe and six outsourcing firms from a federal program used to sponsor foreign workers for employment-based green cards, Vice President JD Vance announced Thursday.
Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling said Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL and Capgemini are also affected. The companies cannot file new applications or have pending ones processed through the Permanent Labor Certification Program, known as PERM. The process is generally an employer’s first step in sponsoring a worker for an employment-based green card.
The administration has also opened investigations into nine universities. It alleges that employers and schools have used visa programs to undercut U.S. workers. Vance said the suspensions could be extended indefinitely and accused companies of falsely certifying that positions require skills unavailable among American workers.
