About 9,000 more U.S. troops are headed to the Middle East as President Donald Trump predicts the war with Iran will end right after the election, if not sooner.
The U.K.’s Maritime Trade Operations center said a tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile Friday while leaving the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz. A fire aboard was put out, and the vessel continued with no reported casualties or environmental harm. The center said at least four vessels had been hit in or near the strait this week.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke Friday with Jordan’s King Abdullah II about regional conflicts, State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said. Their discussion covered Lebanon, Syria and disarming Hizballah, though the account gave few details.
After a Group of Seven meeting on fuel supplies and prices, Trump said European leaders had agreed to begin releasing diesel from their stockpiles immediately.
