The Seminole Tribe of Florida sued DraftKings in Broward Circuit Court on Thursday, alleging its online platform runs an illegal sports betting operation under state law.
The tribe says DraftKings' sports book breaches its 2021 gaming compact with Florida, which gives the tribe a monopoly on sports betting in the state. The lawsuit claims wagers placed through DraftKings divert revenue from the tribe and public programs and leave bettors without protections under Florida law.
The tribe wants the court to halt the disputed betting activities, declare them unlawful and award damages and fees, including the return of profits it says DraftKings earned from Florida operations. DraftKings could not be reached for comment Thursday. Speaking to reporters in Miami that day, Gov. Ron DeSantis appeared to side with the tribe.
