Chicago police have warned of at least three gunpoint robberies linked to meetups arranged online in Greater Grand Crossing in recent weeks.
Police said the victims were contacted through Facebook Marketplace or other social media, dating or meetup apps, then robbed after arriving at an agreed location. Two robberies occurred on the 400 block of West 76th Street, on Sept. 17 and Sept. 29. A third occurred on the 7500 block of South Eggleston Avenue on Oct. 7.
Police described the suspects as a man and a woman. The department advised people buying or selling items to meet in designated safe exchange zones inside district station lobbies.
