A family of six was displaced after a fire swept through their Laveen home early Friday morning.
Phoenix firefighters responded around 4 a.m. to the house near 45th Avenue and Estrella Drive, east of Loop 202 South Mountain. They found heavy smoke and flames inside and checked that the family had escaped safely.
The size of the fire prompted a first-alarm response, bringing additional crews and resources, Phoenix Fire Capt. DJ Lee said. Firefighters used a defensive approach to contain the blaze and prevent it from reaching nearby homes, then extinguished the remaining hot spots.
