A judge kept bail at $500,000 for Oneil George Bygrave, a Seattle man accused of attacking two people with a machete at Hing Hay Park. The judge denied his request for release at an Oct. 14 hearing, citing concern that he posed a danger to the public.
Bygrave faces first- and second-degree assault charges stemming from the alleged Oct. 9 attack. Prosecutors say both charges include allegations that he was armed with a machete. He remained in custody after the hearing.
Court documents say officers responded to reports of a man swinging a machete. One man told police Bygrave turned and slashed at him; a second man tried to intervene and was also injured. Prosecutors said the first man had wounds to his back, forearm and wrist, while the second had a large cut to the side of his head.
Prosecutors sought the $500,000 bail, citing concerns that Bygrave might miss court or commit another violent offense. They also requested electronic home detention if he posts bail and no contact with the two men.
