Miami-Dade sheriff’s detectives arrested a Florida man at a Brazilian presidential election polling site Sunday after they said he posed as an immigration agent and frightened voters.
Danilo Alves Silva, 46, of Port St. Lucie, was detained around 2:10 p.m. at Miami-Dade College’s Kendall Campus, an official voting location for Brazilian citizens. He faces five charges, including voter intimidation.
According to the arrest report, deputies saw Silva moving between two voting buildings in an ICE hat and raid jacket, a camouflage face mask, tactical boots and sunglasses. He carried a handheld radio and reported his position over it. Deputies said he approached several people who appeared afraid he might interfere with voting or deport them.
Detectives intervened after Silva responded aggressively when a voter and another person carrying a camera confronted him, the report said. Silva later acknowledged he was not a federal agent and told deputies he had bought the outfit as a costume on Amazon.
