New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and more than 100 elected officials across the state are urging private parking operators in the five boroughs to deny U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement use of their lots and garages.

In a letter released Friday, they asked owners not to rent or lend space for ICE enforcement operations and to tell the agency it cannot use their property. Signatories include U.S. senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

The appeal follows an ICE shooting in Marble Hill just over a week earlier that wounded Oscar Belgal, a 28-year-old Dominican immigrant. Local officials said ICE officers had recently used a nearby Target parking lot as a staging ground. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said officers did not use that lot for staging on the day Belgal was shot. Target said it has no agreement with a federal immigration office.
