An infant and a driver died in a 10-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 after a Georgia State Patrol pursuit, the Georgia Department of Public Safety said.
The department identified the infant as seven-month-old Kalayia Tolbert. She was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with two other infants from a vehicle hit in the crash. The Audi driver, Cameron Gabriel Kemp, 33, of Covington, died after being taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
The incident began at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, when a trooper spotted the Audi at roughly 110 mph where the limit was 60 mph, the department said. Its headlights were off, and it was moving between lanes of traffic. The driver briefly stopped on the shoulder after the trooper activated emergency equipment, then accelerated away.
The Audi traveled east, left I-20 at Candler Road and returned to the highway, the department said. At the Wesley Chapel Road exit, Kemp lost control, hit a guardrail and collided with multiple vehicles.
