Texans must register by Oct. 5 to vote in the Nov. 3 midterm election. Secretary of State Robert S. Howden urged eligible voters who have not registered, or who have moved since they last voted, to act before the deadline.
Voters are also being urged to check their registration status and address, then help five family members, friends, neighbors or co-workers check theirs.
The push comes after at least 200,000 registration applications and updates were caught in a statewide backlog. The Texas Department of Public Safety said a system issue kept incomplete records submitted through its online driver’s license portal from reaching county voter registrars. Some records date to October 2025. DPS said the issue has been resolved, but county election offices have had to review the records in the weeks before voting begins.
