Divvy sets a summer ridership record in Chicago

Chicago’s Divvy system logged more than 3.5 million bike and scooter trips since June 1, giving the city-owned service its busiest summer on record, city officials said Tuesday.

July and August each passed 1 million trips, the first time Divvy has crossed that mark in a single month, according to the city. Officials said summer ridership was up by more than 10 percent from the same period last year, with more than 670,000 additional trips recorded through mid-September.

Divvy operates rental bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters. City officials said the system expanded this year by adding capacity at high-demand locations and installing charging stations aimed at improving e-bike availability.

The city said annual memberships cost $99 for new and returning riders. Through the Divvy for Everyone program, income-eligible residents can get a $5 annual membership and reduced per-minute rates.
