Bus riders heading from New Jersey to Manhattan’s Midtown Bus Terminal could face delays starting Thursday as construction changes their routes out of the Lincoln Tunnel.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said buses will take different paths from the tunnel to the terminal’s ramps so work can advance on the first phase of a roughly $11 billion replacement project. Delays may be most noticeable during weekday rush hours, and the disruption could last for years.
The agency advised commuters to allow extra travel time and check with their bus carriers for current information. Work on the broader project began last year and is not expected to finish until 2035. Plans for the new terminal include a multistory atrium, a central entrance and a section of 41st Street closed to traffic between Eighth and Ninth avenues.
