Chicago Blackhawks captain Connor Bedard could make his season debut Tuesday against the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins, but his return has not been confirmed.
Bedard took part in full-contact practice Sunday for the first time since having surgery on his left shoulder in July. Coach Jeff Blashill did not rule out a Tuesday return and said he would await the results of Bedard’s upcoming doctor’s appointment before setting a date.
The 21-year-old center injured his shoulder during an offseason training session in Vancouver on July 2. He had resumed skating with the team in a non-contact jersey before joining every drill Sunday. Bedard said he felt good after practicing with contact, though doctors still need to clear him to play.
Bedard practiced at his usual top-line center spot alongside Roman Kantserov and Patrick Kane. He has led Chicago in scoring in each of his three NHL seasons.
