Swiss racer Catherine Debrunner won the 2026 Chicago Marathon women’s wheelchair division in 1:33:16, breaking her own world record by exactly one minute.
Her previous mark was 1:34:16, set at the 2023 Berlin Marathon. Debrunner said she had not expected a record in Chicago and credited the crowd and race conditions for helping her. The victory was her 12th in a major marathon.
Debrunner also won in Chicago in 2023, her U.S. debut, and in 2024. Earlier in 2026, she placed second at the Boston Marathon before claiming her fourth London Marathon title.
Tatyana McFadden took second after a sprint to the finish with Manuela Schär. Defending champion Susannah Scaroni did not race this year as she prepared to welcome her first child.
