Houston drops opener to Buffalo, 36-31
The Texans opened their season with a 36-31 home loss to the Bills on Sunday at Reliant Stadium.
Houston stayed in the game behind C.J. Stroud, who finished 26 of 38 for 274 yards and two touchdowns. He also lost two fumbles, including one on the offense's final drive. The Texans briefly moved ahead by one point in the fourth quarter before Buffalo closed out the win.
David Montgomery gave Houston a lift in the running game after arriving in the offseason. He scored twice on the ground in the first half and added a touchdown catch in the fourth quarter, finishing with 60 rushing yards. Nico Collins led the receivers with seven catches for 75 yards, while Woody Marks added 42 rushing yards on nine carries.
Late mistakes hurt Houston's chances. Trent Brown was flagged for a false start on the final drive, and Stroud was sacked twice on that possession after being brought down three times overall.
