The New York Yankees are one loss from elimination in the ALDS after falling 5-2 to the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 2 at Tropicana Field. They also lost the opener there, 1-0.
New York committed four errors in Game 2, one each by Jazz Chisholm Jr., Ryan McMahon, Austin Wells and George Lombard Jr. Chisholm's throwing error on a double-play attempt allowed Tampa Bay to score in the first inning. Ben Rice tied the game with a solo homer in the fourth, but the Rays moved ahead again in the fifth.
Manager Aaron Boone said afterward that the Yankees needed to put the loss behind them, score more runs and do a better job preventing them. A reported warning about Boone's future from an MLB insider was not detailed in the game account.
