OpenAI says it will not go public this year
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the San Francisco company does not plan to go public this year, as debate over artificial intelligence safety and security intensifies.
Altman made the comment in an interview published Saturday. The discussion comes as concerns about fast-moving AI development have spread beyond the industry. Former Anthropic employee Jacob Coxon warned that rapid advances in AI could threaten humanity by the end of the decade, and he repeated those concerns in a Sunday television interview.
Altman also said OpenAI recognizes the stakes and the risks tied to its technology. The broader argument over AI policy has drawn in other leaders as well: Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has called for a slower pace in improving AI models, while President Donald Trump has argued against slowing US progress in the field. Former President Barack Obama last week also urged stronger AI controls.
