The United States has recorded 4,080 confirmed measles cases this year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in data updated Friday. Cases have been reported in 45 states and Washington, D.C.; 18 of those infected were international visitors to the U.S.
Children and teenagers 19 and younger account for most cases. CDC data show that about 95% of patients were unvaccinated or had an unknown vaccination status. About one in 10 children under age 5 with measles has been hospitalized.
State health officials have confirmed five measles-associated deaths in Pennsylvania in 2026, while the CDC has recognized two deaths nationwide so far. The agency says its death count may change. Infectious diseases specialist Dr. Peter Chin-Hong said the confirmed case total may miss infections in families who were never tested.
